The American College of Pediatrics advises that children under 4 years of age should not take
swimming lessons. There is no valid reason for their position. Drowning incidences are being quoted, but are there
statistics of how many children were saved because of lessons?
We hear all the wonderful stories of children swimming happily, having no fears and the overall health benefit can
hardly be overlooked. We feel that drowning is a matter of lack of supervision. We cannot say that often
enough. We all know, that even the most accomplished swimmers of all ages should be watched.
