JUNE 14,2021 New COVID Protocols:
Beginning on Tuesday, June 15th, the State of California has changed the COVID mask protocols. At Daland Swim School we service a demographic who is unable to get vaccinated. We are making the following changes in accordance with the new regulations:
Daland Staff
- All Staff will continue to take their temperature each day and attest to their health conditions.
- All Daland office staff will continue to wear a mask because they work mostly indoors.
- Swim instructors will wear a face shield while teaching lessons.
- Fully vaccinated camp counselors, lifeguards, and swim coaches will not be required to wear a mask.
- Camp counselors, lifeguards and swim coaches who are not fully vaccinated will be required to wear a mask.
Daland Clientele (Customers)
- No longer required to have their temperature taken.
- All vaccinated customers are no longer required to wear a mask at our facility.
- All non-vaccinated customers are asked to please wear a mask at our facility. WE will not be asking customers for their vaccination status. We are on the honor system and ask that unvaccinated customers wear a mask to protect those who cannot be vaccinated, particularly the children who cannot be vaccinated.
- Swimmers / Campers under 12 are asked to wear a mask while indoors.
- Swimmers on the Daland Team are no longer required to wear a mask during dryland training.
At our pool, we will continue to have hand sanitizer stations and touchless soap and faucets in the restrooms.
We realize that people have a different comfort zone with COVID protocols and we are doing our best to make everyone comfortable while keeping our staff and customers safe. Thank you in advance for your understanding. It is a challenging time and we are committed to safety first and providing quality Daland programming to swimmers of all ages and abilities.

Southern California Edison has informed us that our power will continue to be out for the remainder of the day. All Lessons, Team & Lap Swim have been canceled and the office will be closed.
We are hopeful the power will be back up soon.
Check the website for updates…
DALAND UPDATE: 1/20/21 [8:00am]
Power is still out; we are operating the office off a generator.
Lessons have been canceled through 12pm today at which time we will send another update.
The pool covers and dome are keeping the pools warm.
We are hopeful the power will be back up soon and resume afternoon Lesson, Team and Lap swim.
**DALAND UPDATE: 1/19/21**
The power is out at the Swim School. All Lessons, Lap Swim and Swim Team are canceled for today Tuesday 19th. The office will also be closed. Unfortunately no power means, no filtration, no heat, and no light to see in the evening. Please stay safe. Hope to see you swimming soon.
Lesson Pool Closed 12/08 & 12/09
Unfortunately, we have suffered multiple power outages from SoCal Edison due to the Red Flag warnings. These abrupt shutdowns wreaked havoc on our lesson pool equipment and the pool will be down for repair for the next two days.
OUR LAP POOL IS OPERATIONAL, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE LAP SWIMMING AND SWIM TEAM.
We will be extending our lesson week in lieu of the closure. Instead of closing on December 21st we will now close on the 23rd. If you have questions, please call the office at (805) 495-5210
December 7th
We are here for you and we are open.
To Our Awesome Daland Family:
Like you, we are very concerned about the uptick in COVID cases in our area. In his news conference, Governor Newsom announced additional restrictions and a limited stay-at-home order. This does not apply to Daland Swim School for three specific reasons:
- Our facility is outdoors.
- Swimming Lessons are officially considered to be an essential service by the State of California.
- We have been inspected by the Ventura County Department of Environmental Health and have been cleared for operations with our COVID protocols in place.
At our facility we are maintaining our vigilance with our COVID protocols. In addition to our other protocols, we are adding touchless temperature checks in our front office. To date, we have no knowledge of any Covid spread at our facility. The CDC has stated that the COVID virus cannot survive in properly chlorinated pools.

(Excerpt from above)
Are swimming pools open?
Outdoor swimming pools are allowed to open in all counties in California. Outdoor pools must close slides, rides, or other attractions.
Indoor swimming pools are closed in counties in the Widespread (purple) or Substantial (red) tiers.
Drowning prevention classes, including swim lessons with certified instructors, are permitted in indoor and outdoor swimming pools in all tiers, as they are deemed essential.
All other Daland programming established since the spring shutdown will continue. This includes limited water aerobics, small group swim team, lap swimming by reservation only and reduced-size American Red Cross Certification courses.
At Daland, we are continuing to implement our COVID protocols.
What you can expect at our facility:
Happy and healthy Daland team members ready to great you
A designated cleaner, sanitizing surfaces after every family
Covid-19 protocols:
o Mask required for everyone over age 2

We understand that everyone has a different approach and opinion about the nature of the COVID19 situation.
We at Daland Swim School must take it seriously – to protect both our staff and our customers.
We will require that everyone comply with the safety protocols.
They are mandated both by the State of California and the County of Ventura.
Thank you very much for continuing to support swimming, drowning prevention and small business. We are so happy that we can continue to offer our services to this community.

Swim Team News
Beginning Monday, June 15, we will be open for swim team.
The County of Ventura has allowed pools to reopen and swim teams to resume – with modifications. Your letters to Dr. Levin were a big help!
Many of you have reached out and sent your best wishes during our closure. Thank you, it means a lot and we have really missed you. It has been a very difficult time for everyone.
It has been great to see everyone on our Zoom Dryland calls. But it’s just not the same as being in the pool.
We are only able to have a maximum of two swimmers per lane during practice. Therefore, we must limit the number of swimmers in the pool.
We have cancelled everyone’s enrollments – and we ask that you re-enroll beginning Sunday, June 14th at 9:00 a.m. on our website.
Please enroll in your correct squad (e.g., if you were on Gold Squad, then enroll again on the Gold Squad.)
Because of the social distancing limitations, we will be very tight on space and will need you to commit to your day and time. Please review the options carefully since we have added times and days.
We realize that this is a change and an adjustment for the swimmers. We feel confident that we will still be able to provide a positive, fun learning environment for your swimmer.
Swim meets: At this time, there are no competitions at Daland or elsewhere.
Stroke Clinics: Please stay tuned. We will be offering Stroke Clinics specifically for our team members.
More information to come.
Thank you in advance for your understanding. We cannot wait to see you swimming at the Daland pool again.
Sincerely,
Tarrik Daou
Head Coach

WE ARE OPEN FOR LAP SWIM!!
Many of you have reached out and sent your best wishes during our closure.
Thank you, it means a lot and we have really missed you. It has been a very difficult time and we really appreciate your well wishes. We are in a tight position and we are working hard to get open and back to full capacity.
Unfortunately, this means that we must cancel yearly memberships moving forward. Our yearly members will receive a credit to go toward future lap swimming. In addition, we will not be offering monthly memberships.
Advanced lane reservations will be required for lap swimming at a cost of $8 per 55-minute block – one swimmer per lane.Up to 3 family members may share a lane at a cost of $8 for the first family member, $5 for the second, and $5 for the third. Please click here to go to the website, reserve your lane, and review the new COVID19 Safety Protocols.
Don’t forget your mask!
We realize that this may be a big cost differential for our loyal members. Unfortunately, we are in a very difficult spot and we are forced to make these changes.
Thank you in advance for your understanding. We can’t wait to see you swimming at the Daland pool again.
Sincerely,
Leslie Daland-James

Safety has always been our #1 principle at Daland Swim School – and your safety is our #1 priority.
We hope to start our second phase of swim lessons and lap swim by June 1st. We are actively lobbying our public representatives and the Director of Ventura County Public Health. We encourage you to speak out as well. Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for kids ages 1-4. This is a public health issue.
Thank you for your support and we hope to have everyone swimming again soon!

We hope that this email finds you all safe and healthy. We have all become closer to our nuclear families, but we miss our Daland swim family!
Did you know that 88% of drownings occur with at least one adult present? Why is that? It’s because even though an adult was present, there wasn’t someone tasked specifically with watching the water.
This week, we have an awesome Water Watcher Tag activity. You can make a Water Watcher tag for an adult to wear anytime a child is swimming in the water.
You can participate in all of the crafting activities to make this useful Water Watcher Tag: cut, color, paste, tape, dye pasta and string the necklace.
Remember, undistracted adult supervision is crucial whenever someone is swimming in the pool.
Drowning is Preventable.
Have a good weekend. Check your email next week for another fun Water Safety activity
Love,
All your friends at Daland Swim School

To our Daland Swim School Family,
We miss you very much – and hope you are all feeling okay and staying safe – with this latest,
“Stay Well at Home” emergency order.
Even though we can’t teach swim lesson in our pool – we want to share our Water Safety Curriculum for schools with you.
Once a week, we will send a lesson or activity to help your family learn about the risks associated with water and how to mitigate those risks.
Attached is a fun “Fortune Teller” activity. Just print out the page and make your Water Safety Fortune Teller.
Fortune Teller Water Safety activity #1
We love our community – and miss your smiling faces. We look forward to seeing you back at the pool!
March 19, 2020
In coordination with the Ventura County Health department and the Ventura County school districts, Daland Swim School will remain closed at least through Friday, May 1. Our new target date to reopen is Monday, May 4.
As you know, things are changing daily, so there is the potential that the closures could be extended beyond May 1. California Governor Gavin Newsom advised parents to prepare for the possibility that schools may be closed through the summer break. While that could indeed happen, we remain hopeful that conditions will improve enough to allow us to reopen sometime in May
We miss our Daland families. We hope everyone is staying safe and supporting each other well during these extraordinary times.

To Our Daland Swim School Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close the swim school beginning Monday, March 16th.
In order to protect the health and welfare of our students, their families and the community -- and in conjunction with the recent directive from Governor Newsom-- we will close the facility completely.
At this time, we expect to be closed through March 29th. We will not run auto charge
(i.e., you will not be charged for April Lessons) until we have a clear path to opening. In addition, lap swim members and swim team (including MiMs and Dudes) will receive two weeks credit on their account. Of course, we will honor all make-ups without an expiration date.
If things change and we are able to open before that time, we will communicate with you via email. In addition, please follow us on Instagram for the most current updates.
We know how important swimming is to your life – and we are crestfallen that we are forced to close. Obviously, this will greatly affect the lives of our employees, but we will weather this challenge as we have those in the past 32 years. These are unprecedented events and we want to be part of the solution.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We are so lucky that you are part of our Daland Swim School family. Stay healthy, and stay safe. We look forward to seeing you back at the pool!
Sincerely,
Leslie Daland
